The Holodeck BBS rules:
1) NO DUPES ALLOWED, PLEASE! To make it simple and fair for everyone, only 1 account per IP address without approval of the Sysop.
Note: Special approval will be granted based on the circumstances. I feel this game is a family game and I also feel that people that have to share a connection shouldn't be denied the opportunity to play. The intent of this rule is one account per person. Please play only your own account. If I determine, based on my observances, that someone is playing two characters I will be forces to suspend one until the issue is resolved. I ask that you try to script seperate when possible. This helps maintains balance and prevents 'dupe' accusations. I also ask that if you are going to initiate PVP that you do it on your own. If a team attacks it is inevitable that I will be asked 'are they dupes?'. And, last of all, if sharing an IP you would be doing yourselves a huge favor by talking and being active so people can and will see that you are seperate people.
2) Respect other users of the bbs. This includes excessive vulgarities on gossips/auctions, continuous harassment other users both in and out of the game, threatening harm beyond the scope of the game and the like. Punishment will depend on severity.
3) PvP is 10 levels. Yes. Anyone within 10 levels of your character's level can attack you. Almost everyone at some time will be attacked by another player(s). Learning how to kill others, defend yourself from others, or both is just another aspect of the game. Don't always count on Mega Mud (if you use it) in it's default set up to save your bacon.
4) Adult Disclaimer. Ok. Even though I said to avoid excessive vulgarities, this is, after all, a BBS full of adult users. Adult language will be heard and used from time to time. Additionally, there are 'actions' in the game that have a vulgar/adult context to them. These are here for entertainment purposes, not to offend anyone. If adult "rated R" language or actions easily offend you, then you may want to reconsider playing on this BBS. If you are a minor, then you must have parent permission before playing. Every effort has been made to make these rules public. If you enter Major Mud, then it will be assumed that you have read and agreed to these rules and will not hold myself or the bbs responsible should you be offended. If you do have a problem, then email me and I will do my best to accommodate you: shneeglor@hotmail.com
5) HAVE FUN!! Isn't that the point of this game? The appeal of Major Mud is that there are plenty of people to meet and talk to, monsters to kill and quests to complete. There are chances for characters to earn fame (or infamy), glory, honor, and respect. So go, play, and have fun!
General Policies:
These are the general guidelines by which I run the BBS. I have included them in the rules so players can have an idea of how I am doing things. These policies can change at any time even if I forget to update the web site, though I will try to let everyone know.
1) The Rules and Policies are subject to change and/or exception based on the situation and my own best judgment. I will be the first to admit I am not perfect. I do my best to make choices and decisions that are balanced and fair.
UPDATED: 2) Bugs! Yes there are a number of bugs out there that players will exploit. Some are Major Mud related, some are Mega Mud related. I would hope that people do not cheat and use bugs. However, I will only take action against those using the bugs to harm the BBS or other players. This includes ANY bug used to give an advantage in PVP, including the
Suprise-Round Bug. Due to the number of complaints, use of this bug (or any attack that suprises that doesn't display the 'suprise' combat message/string) will result in suspension and removal of ALL items if used. This includes moving backstabs, backstabs with non-backstabing weapons, and dragging room spells. A capture of the attack will need to be emailed to me to review. Please remember that Mega Mud has a number of issues of it's own that aren't really bugs. Try adjusting settings or message responses. You'll be amazed how changing a few message responses can improve things. Also, room-spells used on seedy people will cause you to cloud. I will not remove these evil points. You have been warned!
3) Top 100. It is possible to be removed from the Top 100 (and Top Gang) lists upon request. BUT I need a good reason to do it. If you are removed from the top lists I reserve the right to return you to the list whenever I feel like it.
4) Lives. The Mud Ops and I have the power to give lives. Lives are NOT given to people that have engaged in PvP or been engaged in PvP recently. Recently means any where from one week to one month depending on how much the character has been on line and how intense PvP has been. I enabled the life buying option so that PVPers and others when no op is around could buy lives.
5) Limited Item Removal. This is one I have had only loose guidelines on. However, I am going to try to be better about it. Free-Class players who stop playing for two-weeks or longer will be wiped. All other classes that don't play at all or very little for one month will be wiped as well. Playing means more than just sitting in the bank AFK. If you are moving, going on vacation, or something like that just let me know. Depending on the item I will either remove it manually or reset it. If it is reset, then it will be dropped in the fashion appropriate for the item (monster or chest) based on it's regen/drop rate. Criteria for manual removal is based on a number of factors. If I do a limited item sweep I will not be telling anyone who or what if asked. I may volunteer such info over gossips if I feel like it depending on what it is.
6) Dusty Limited Items. This is what I call the limited items that sit in a stash untouched and unmoved for months. Honestly, I don't understand why someone would stash a limited item for months and months. Any limited I notice just sitting unused for months I will feel obligated to put back into circulation. For the record, I have only conducted this type of raid once since owning the BBS. This does not apply to vaulted items. There are game mechanics already set up to balance this problem. I could care less what is kept in vaults.
